China and Poland Boost Electric Vehicle Cooperation

China and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the electric vehicle sector despite the European Union's recent decision to increase tariffs on Chinese imports. A joint action plan for 2024-27 highlights the promotion of two-way investments in EVs and green development. Key Chinese and Polish automotive companies are forming partnerships and initiating production projects in Europe to respond to these challenges.
China and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the electric vehicle (EV) sector despite the European Union's recent decision to increase tariffs on Chinese imports.

A joint action plan for 2024-27 highlights the promotion of two-way investments in EVs, green development, and logistics.

This agreement follows a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Polish President Andrzej Duda.

The EU has decided to impose tariffs up to 38.1% on Chinese EV imports, prompting China to initiate an anti-dumping investigation into pork imports.

In response, China has agreed to discussions with the EU to prevent a potential trade war.

Economic analysts predict Chinese companies may increase manufacturing operations in Europe to circumvent these tariffs.

Notably, Polish Minister of State Assets Jakub Jaworowski met with a delegation from Chinese carmaker Geely to discuss Poland's role in Europe's automotive market.

Geely is working with Polish firm ElectroMobility Poland on an EV project due to start mass production in two years.

Additionally, Leapmotor and Stellantis have begun manufacturing in Tychy, Poland, while other Chinese firms such as BYD and SAIC are also investing in European production facilities.

Chery has acquired a plant in Barcelona through a joint venture with Ebro-EV Motors, marking the first Chinese company to sign a deal to produce cars in Western Europe.

China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao recently visited the joint venture plant encouraging the EU to engage in dialogue over protectionist measures.

Spain, a key supporter of the EU tariffs, could be heavily impacted by the Chinese anti-dumping investigation into pork products.

EV exports remain crucial for China's economic strategy, with EV exports in the first five months of this year valued at 14.6 billion US dollars.
