Hong Kong Book Fair Attracts Greater Bay Area Tourists

The Hong Kong Book Fair is set to attract Greater Bay Area tourists with new attractions. Running from July 17 to 23, tickets for one dollar also cover the Sports and Leisure Expo and the World of Snacks at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. This year’s fair will feature over 600 seminars, cultural activities, and nostalgic treats, all under national security legislation compliance.
The Hong Kong Book Fair, held annually, is making efforts to attract more visitors from the Greater Bay Area.

Scheduled from July 17 to 23, the seven-day event themed 'Reading the World: Storytelling from Page to Screen' will feature tickets priced at HK$30 (one dollar), which include access to the Sports and Leisure Expo and the World of Snacks.

The Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai will host these events with around 760 exhibitors.

According to Sophia Chong Suk-fan, deputy director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the goal is to offer a family-oriented activity that appeals to Greater Bay Area and Southeast Asian tourists.

The Bay Area, an emerging economic zone consisting of Hong Kong, Macau, and nine mainland Chinese cities, has a combined population of 86 million.

To promote the event, roadshows will be held in Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

Over 600 seminars and cultural activities featuring renowned writers and directors such as Wong Kar-wai, Tsui Hark, and Ann Hui On-wah will be part of the book fair.

Additionally, artificial intelligence software will create photo backdrops from classic movies. Under the recent national security legislation, exhibitors will need to comply with local laws.

The Sport and Leisure Expo will feature a tai chi robot endorsed by masters like Li Fai, while the World of Snacks will offer nostalgic treats like Nestle's 'Wonder' ice bar and 'Footsie' ice cream stick.
