Hong Kong Disneyland Achieves 83% Reduction in Losses Amid Post-Pandemic Rebound

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort significantly reduced its net losses by 83 percent to three hundred fifty-six million Hong Kong dollars, or 45.6 million US dollars, in 2023. This marks a strong post-pandemic recovery, with record-breaking financial performance in revenue, Ebitda, and net profits. Visitor numbers surged by 87 percent, with new attractions and increased spending per capita playing crucial roles in the park's recovery.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort significantly reduced its net losses by 83% to HK$356 million (one dollar 45.6 million) in 2023, marking a strong post-pandemic recovery.

Between January and March, the theme park on Lantau Island saw record-breaking revenue, Ebitda, and net profit figures, as revealed by Managing Director Michael Moriarty.

The theme park's Ebitda rose by 207% year-on-year to HK$924 million, while revenue increased by 156% to HK$5.7 billion with visitor numbers up by 87% to 6.4 million from the previous year.

Despite these gains, 2023 marked the ninth consecutive year of losses. Key factors in the park's recovery included new attractions and increased spending per capita by 54%.

However, long-haul visitor recovery remains constrained by flight capacity, with Cathay Pacific Airways not expected to return to full capacity until early next year.

The park’s three hotels also saw an increase in occupancy rates, reaching 47% from the previous year's 24%.

The park repaid a revolving loan facility to its US parent company in December 2022, and lawmakers are optimistic about the park’s financial sustainability.
