Introduction of Composite Restricted Foods Permit

Applications open January 1, 2025, for permits covering sales of multiple restricted food items both physically and online.
With the goal of facilitating trade for businesses selling multiple restricted food items, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) will introduce a Composite Restricted Foods Permit.

This permit allows for the sale of various restricted foods, including non-bottled drinks, dairy products, and ice cream in original wrappers, at the same premises or through online platforms.

Applications for the permit will begin on January 1, 2025.

The Composite Restricted Foods Permit covers the sale of multiple restricted foods, except those sold via vending machines, at a fee of $810 per permit.

Existing permits for single-item restricted foods will continue unchanged, and applicants may choose the appropriate permit according to their needs.

The Food Business Regulation (Cap.132X) requires anyone wishing to sell restricted foods listed in Schedule 2, such as non-bottled drinks and dairy products, to obtain written permission from the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, ensuring hygienic standards are met.

Separate applications are required for selling more than one type of restricted food item.

According to an FEHD spokesman, the department has streamlined the application process due to similar basic licensing requirements for most operators, enhancing convenience.
