Hong Kong Health Officials Participate in Blood Donation Drive Ahead of World Blood Donor Day

Secretary for Health and Under Secretary for Health donate blood at Central Government Offices to encourage public participation
On June 12, 2025, the Secretary for Health, Professor Lo Chung-mau, and the Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Libby Lee, participated in a blood donation drive organized by the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) at the Central Government Offices (CGO).

The event aimed to promote blood donation among government personnel and the general public.

The BTS provided mobile blood donation services at the CGO on June 12 and 13, facilitating convenient access for donors.

Professor Lo emphasized the government's commitment to supporting blood donation initiatives, noting that various departments regularly organize such drives, with the CGO event being a significant annual occurrence.

Professor Lo highlighted the importance of regular blood donations, stating that a single unit of whole blood can save up to three patients.

He pointed out that there is no substitute for blood, and its shelf life is limited, making consistent donations crucial for maintaining adequate blood supplies.

The Secretary for Health also acknowledged World Blood Donor Day, observed annually on June 14, as designated by the World Health Organization.

He expressed gratitude to all blood donors for their selfless contributions, which play a vital role in saving lives.

To enhance blood collection efforts, the BTS operates multiple donor centers across Hong Kong and deploys mobile blood donation teams and vehicles to various communities.

Members of the public can make appointments for blood donation through the "HK Blood" mobile application, the BTS website, or by contacting donor centers directly to minimize waiting times.
