Hong Kong Opens Exhibition Marking Five Years of National Security Law

Museum of History hosts thematic display reflecting on implementation and impact of legislation
On 12 June 2025, the Hong Kong Museum of History inaugurated a thematic exhibition commemorating the fifth anniversary of the promulgation and implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law.

The exhibition, organised by the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is open to the public.

Secretary for Justice Paul Lam officiated the opening ceremony.

In his address, Lam emphasised three key principles: the importance of remembering history, acknowledging present realities, and actively participating in safeguarding national security.

He highlighted the role of the rule of law as fundamental to Hong Kong's success as an international financial, trade, and shipping centre.

Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung also spoke at the event, underscoring the constitutional duty of the HKSAR and its citizens to protect national sovereignty, security, and development interests.

Tang identified ongoing risks to national security, including external interference, activities by individuals who have fled overseas, local terrorism, and the spread of misinformation aimed at dividing society.

The exhibition aims to enhance public understanding of the significance of national security and the responsibilities of citizens in its protection.

It also seeks to illustrate the legal framework established by the National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, which was enacted in March 2024 following the passage of Article 23 legislation by the Legislative Council.
