Hong Kong Delegation Showcases Biotech Innovation at BIO International Convention 2025

InvestHK and HKSTP lead sixteen-company delegation to Boston, highlighting Hong Kong's biotech strengths and opportunities in the Greater Bay Area
A delegation from Hong Kong, comprising sixteen life science and health technology companies, is participating in the BIO International Convention 2025, held from June sixteenth to nineteenth at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The delegation is led by Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP).

The Hong Kong Pavilion at the convention aims to promote the city's biotechnology ecosystem and its strategic position as a gateway to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Asia-Pacific region.

The delegation includes companies involved in pharmaceuticals, gene editing, diagnostics, regenerative medicine, and other sectors.

For the first time, the delegation features representatives from Hong Kong's two leading medical faculties: the LKS Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong and the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

These institutions are showcasing their research and innovations in areas such as drug development, vaccinology, stem cell biotechnology, non-invasive diagnostics, precision medicine, and medical robotics.

InvestHK's Head of Innovation and Technology, Andy Wong, is conducting a duty visit to the United States from June sixteenth to twentieth to engage with biotech stakeholders, start-ups, investors, and media, with the aim of attracting business and investment into Hong Kong.

The BIO International Convention is the world's largest biotechnology event, bringing together over twenty thousand industry leaders from around the globe.

The convention features more than one hundred interactive sessions covering various therapeutic areas, including business development, digital health, patient advocacy, public policy, and next-generation biotherapeutics.

Hong Kong's biotech sector is supported by initiatives such as the InnoLife Healthtech Hub in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park and a ten billion Hong Kong dollar Innovation and Technology Industry-Oriented Fund introduced in the twenty twenty-four Policy Address.

Additionally, reforms to the Listing Rules by the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited have enabled pre-revenue biotech companies to list on the main board, enhancing access to capital markets.

The Greater Bay Area presents significant opportunities for biotech firms, with designated healthcare institutions allowed to use Hong Kong-registered drugs and medical devices approved for public hospitals.

As of April thirtieth, twenty twenty-five, fifty-one drugs and sixty-three medical devices have been permitted by the Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration.

InvestHK reported that in twenty twenty-four, the number of innovation and technology companies it assisted rose to one hundred twenty, up from eighty-two in twenty twenty-three, making it the top-performing sector among all sectors supported by the department.
