Hong Kong Cancels 'A Symphony of Lights' Amid Strong Wind Signal

Evening light show suspended on June 14 due to Tropical Storm Wutip and issuance of Strong Wind Signal No. 3
Hong Kong's nightly light and sound show, 'A Symphony of Lights,' has been cancelled for the evening of Saturday, June 14, following the issuance of the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The decision aligns with established protocols that mandate the suspension of the show when such weather warnings are in effect at or after 3:00 p.m. on the day of the performance.

The Strong Wind Signal No. 3 indicates that sustained wind speeds of 41 to 62 kilometers per hour are expected, with gusts possibly exceeding 110 kilometers per hour.

This signal was issued in response to Tropical Storm Wutip, which has been influencing weather conditions in the region.

As of the latest reports, Wutip was located approximately 710 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong and is forecasted to move northwest towards Hainan Island, bringing strong winds and heavy rains to the area.

'A Symphony of Lights' is a daily multimedia show that features synchronized lights, lasers, and music, involving 42 buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbour.

The show is scheduled to commence at 8:00 p.m. each evening.

However, in accordance with safety guidelines, the performance is suspended when the Hong Kong Observatory issues a Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or higher, or a Red or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal, at or after 3:00 p.m. on the day of the show.

The suspension remains in effect even if the warning signal is lowered before the scheduled start time.

The cancellation of the show is part of broader precautionary measures taken by Hong Kong authorities in response to adverse weather conditions.

These measures aim to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions caused by tropical cyclones and associated weather phenomena.
